THE LODGE
WHO WE ARE
Originally built in the 1950s, the Lodge sits on the north shores of Summit Lake, nestled into the mountains of the Chugach National Forest. Built as a roadhouse while the Seward Highway was being constructed, the Lodge still has many original features to it. For 60 plus years the big, hand-cut timbers in the main dining room have been holding the Lodge up. The large slate fireplace is a centerpiece to the Lodge and a cozy place to gather around.

After selling all of their belongings, driving the Alcan, and living on the Kenai Peninsula for a year, Marty and June Arnoldy came upon Summit Lake Lodge in May of 1985. Back in those days there was no telephone, no radio, no TV, and a furnace that burned either coal or wood! The entire operation ran off electricity from an old John Deere generator that provided a "steady" stream of power.
Marty and June fell in love with the lodge and after giving their entire life savings down as earnest money, and 10 days to come up with a 40% down payment (another story in itself) the dream of owning a lodge and restaurant in Alaska had come to fruition. On July 1, 1985 Summit Lake Lodge had opened under new owners and the adventure began. And as they say, the rest is history!
The lodge is now a family operation. With their daughter, Lyndsey, son-in-law, Brandon and grandchildren, the Arnoldy clan invites you into their "home" for a unique and authentic Alaskan experience.
